Differentiating Sex Counseling from Sex Therapy
Sexuality counselors are solution-focused practitioners that act in an advisory role to help you achieve a more satisfying sexual life. Additionally, as a medical provider, I have the skills to diagnose and treat many health issues that negatively impact sexual activity.
Sex therapists neither diagnose nor treat medical problems but focus instead on behavioral and mental health issues.
My counseling practice is focused on helping you clarify your goals and develop a realistic plan for achieving them. I do not provide intensive, long-term psychotherapy for complex or chronic mental health problems. Should I determine this is needed, I will refer you to my sex therapy colleagues or other appropriate practitioners.
